Brick reflection

On July the 30 we had House of Bricks come over to our school. The reason they came over is because we were working on collaboration and character. collaboration is working together and character is not giving up having perseverance. Here is my reflection.

Do you have collaboration and character?

My favourite Lego activity was making the cars because we got to free build our car and use anything in

the pile of Lego. Then we got to test them, and then if the cars did not go that far we could modify them

so they could go further.

My least favourite Lego activity was making the pattens because the bases were limited to a

16x16 square.

The activity that tested my perseverance the most was the switching builds because when you got

something, it was hard in some of the piles because everyone had different ideas to everyone.

The most challenging activity was building the towers, because you had to make the block below the

top block reinforced, other wise the whole tower would collapse and you would have to restart it.

I enjoyed working collaboratively with others because having a team in Lego you could finish stuff like

the towers or the cars easier.

Cats!

This week for writing I did a pice of writing about cats! I did what breed is right for you and how to look after your cat. Hope you like it and you learn somthing!

How to take care of a cat or know what breed to get.

Are you feeling lonely and wanting something but not knowing what it is? You should get a cat!

First you should know what breed is right for you. If you are alone and want to talk to someone you should get a siamese cat! This cat meows a lot but that's not bad because a lot of people have said that when it meows the owners talk back and they said it's like being in a conversation. If you want a fluffy companion to sit on your lap you should get a Persian cat. The persian cat is a fluffy high maintenance cat that is loving and affectionate, if you do get this cat it will need brushing every day. If you want a playful cat I suggest a ragdoll. This cat from birth will play with a toy or your hands all day! With a ragdoll they are easy to train and are super playful, they are a perfect family cat.

If you get a cat you are probably wondering what food should I get! There is lots of cat food but it all depends on the breed and how old they are. You should know that if you have a kitten you should get kitten food and if you have an adult cat you should get normal cat food. If you want to reward your cat I will suggest temptations. They have lots of flavors ranging from sea food all the way to barbecue meat, just stuffed into a treat. Even if you shake the packet of Temptations your pet will come sprinting to the flavorful treats waiting to be gulped down by your cat. If you are looking for healthy cat food, iams is the number one cat food for health.

You will need some equipment and toys to keep your cat busy. Here are the things to take care of your pet.  You don't want your cat to scratch curtains, trees and walls, right? This is the job for a cat scratcher you only need to train your cat to go to scratch it easy right. Next thing you need is a litter box. THIS IS NEEDED with this you can train your cat to go to the litter box to go poop or pee instead of your cat pooping all over your house. A food bowl and a water bowl would be a thing to get. It could be a normal bowl or a fedder that controls their food coming down into the bowl. Be noted that a lot of cats like running water than still so they may like drinking from a tap. Next thing you will need is toys. There is a big range of toys from a simple toy mouse to an electric mouse so get the right one for you. I suggest a toy that you can drag around so you save your hands.

Thank you for listening. I hope you now know what a cat is right  for you and the things you need for your cat. These are amazing animals!

My hobby!

This week for reading I have done a acrostic poem about my hobby. If your wondering my hobby is Hockey.Hope you like it :)

Why nobody should litter!

Hi this week for persuasive writing my topic is why nobody should litter I did three three reasons and stuff like a rhetorical question. If this canged your mind about littering please comment and I hope you like it!

Without a doubt, you all know about the plateau of rubbish across the ocean. If you don't then let me convince you to not add to the junk pile.

First of all, do you know how many animals die from rubbish a day? I'm not just talking about marine animals. I'm talking about land animals and animals that fly. Research says that 100,000 land and flying animals die each year but that's a tiny number compared to how many marine animals die. 100,000,000 marine animals die a year due to swallowing or getting their head stuck on plastic. Now that's a LOT. Think about it, do you want millions of animals dying a year?

Secondly, do you know how long some things take to decompose?

For a fishing line it can take 600 years just to decompose. If you leave rubbish at a random place and come back in 50 years it has a high chance of still being there.

Lastly if you go to a school or to a city and then you see rubbish everywhere would you want to go to that school or city? I bet you don't, you would think that the children or teachers don't make an effort to keep the school clean. Now that's irresponsible!

I think if people don't litter it could make a big difference in the world. What are you waiting for? A bigger punishment for littering than a fine up to $400 NO. Stop littering.

Lockdown writing

This week in lockdown I wrote a persuasive writing piece about why we should ban junkfood from schools. I hope you like it. Comment if you agree with me

Why we should ban junk food from school

I am Romeo and I will try to convince you to ban junk food from schools.

Parents, do you want your kids to come home energized just by sugar? I bet you don’t and that's why it's a good idea to ban junk food from school. I'm not talking completely banning junk food, but just limiting it to 1-2 treats. If you find a big juicy hamburger in your lunch box and other kids don't get what you have, it could lead to jealousy, and jealousy could lead to begging.

If you do get your kids junk food they could get addicted and it could lead to even more begging if you don’t get it. A lot of money could be spent on less expensive healthy food but it's all getting spent on junk food.

It could also lead to anger if you take it away. Also for schools if they have a cafeteria, they may spend more money on junk food then healthy food. It could lead to arguments if the kids want more junk food and there isn't any left from kids sloping mountains of it on their plate. For the school, once the healthy food has gone rotten they would be wasting their money on healthy food when all kids want is junk food.

Margret Mahy Town recount!

On the 20 of May 2021 Tumu Hub went to Margaret Mahy. We had 4 rotations.  We walked to Victoria Square to look at the pou. We also went to Margaret Mahy playground to do an awesome treasure hunt. At Margaret Mahy playground there were carvings on the ground. We put our paper over the carving then used a crayon to rub over our paper to copy a bit of the  carving . We went on a waka on the Avon River and we also got to row. There were also lots of slimy eels (tuna) that were under the deck to get on the Waka that we fed. We looked at lots of Maori mats that told stories.

My favourite part of the trip was definitely going on a big waka because we got to paddle and that it was my first time on a Waka it was so fun!

Something I learnt was that the playground was built because after the devastating 2011 earthquake people left the city and they built the playground so they could bring people into the city.

The thing I found the most interesting was statues of queen Victoria and Captain Cook and also that Victoria square was originally a market!

This trip has helped me with my PBL because I saw lots of new Maori patterns on the mats that told things or stories.

Have you been on a waka?

POEMS

This week I have finished my poem slide and added 3 more different poems the free verse poem, shape poem and a couplet poem. Hope you like them :)

Theseus and the Minotaur

This term we did a big piece of writing about Theseus and the Minotaur. First we read the book and then we started writing we used different kind of writing to make it interesting. I hope you like it :)

Theseus And The Minotaur

Many moons ago when the Gods ruled the Earth they stirred trouble within the two Kingdoms.

King Aegeus of Athens was fun and caring however King Minos of Crete is annoying and

horrid

2000 feet below King Minos’ palace, he imprisoned a monster that was half man, half bull

The beast had powerful muscles, a bulky build and a monster-like face. Its veins are

bulging- pumping and bulging. Its teeth are yellow- bloody and yellow. Its fur is dirty-

long and dirty.

In retribution for the death of  Minos' son, the Athenians had to sacrifice fourteen citizens

to this terrifying Minotaur every year. Theseus, the son of King Aegeus, was an intelligent,

muscular man who loved adventures and could never resist challenge. One year, he offered

to sail to the island of Crete as one of the seven young men sent as a sacrifice. Theseus was determined to kill the Minotaur. King Aegeus felt devastated and in turmoil

about his son’s decision. He told him to fly white Sails on his return, to show the mission

has been successful.

The wind swayed through the ship’s sails as Theseus and his buddies travelled to Crete.

King Minos and Ariadne greeted the Athenians at the harbour “Time to meet your doom!”

King Minos boomed as the Athenians were pulled down to the Labyrinth, their hearts were

pounding inside them, their body’s trembling with fear.

Her eyes as yellow as  honey, skin as shiny as the sun, Ariadne whose eyes do not sparkle

like sapphires and whose lips were  not red as roses had fallen in love with Thesus at first

sight. ‘How can I rescue my brave handsome love from the blood thirsty beast? She thought.

What can I do…  how can I… I will help you escape the Minotaur she whispered to him.

Ariadne gave Theseus a ball of string and told him to unravel it as he walked through the

maze, so he could use it as a path back to safety. Deep in the maze, the rivals stabbed each other gruesomely.POW!  CRASH!  SMASH!   BANG!  Theseus battled, defeated, and decapitated

the Minotaur. Theseus, who was exhausted but elated, escaped.

The vitors dashed like a race car to their awaiting boat. Theseus’ smile turned upside down

when Ariadne said “Remember you promised I'll be queen” As the boat carried them back

across the sea back to Athens, Theseus felt fearful and annoyed.

Half way home, they stopped on an island to collect supplies. Whilst Ariadne swam

in the water to clean off, the others were planning a cunning plan to leave her on the island.

Theseus thought, ‘maybe I should hang her over a tree as shark bait. She is not going

to be my Queen. The Athenians vanished into their boat and silently slipped  away from

the shore.

Ariadne ambled cheerfully to find food for the group. The berries she collected were fresh,

delicious, tangy and busting with a rich sweetness. Yet when she returned to show the others

her produce, Theseus had vanished, her friends had vanished, everyone had vanished.

As the waves crashed and the sails creecked Theseus and his sailors got closer and closer to

home. However, he forgot to fly white sails to show his father he was safe. The sails were

black like a night sky . King Aegeus seeked out to the ocean and realised his son was

murdered.

And the First school was opened in Lyttelton 6 of January 1851. There were lots of cool facts in this article and it was a lot of fun to read about it.

Waitangi Letter

This week we had to make a letter as if we were in New Zealand and we were signing the treaty of Waitangi. I really tried to make it sound real as if we actually in the signing the treating if we were back in time on the day of the signing . This piece of writing was really fun. I hope you like it.

Dear  Grandfather

Hi grandfather, we have set off  to sign the treaty do you know what it is, well I will tell you it Is something that you sign an agreement with and it last forever unless you started war anyways there was a big storm last night it was very loud and a piece of hail broke through my tent but the water has dried up now it is very hot here.

There have been so many new plants and animals we have found. I wish you were here. Father has been practising one phrase of Maori to say at the end of the signing I don't know what it means but it sounds different to English. We are travelling on foot so it will take a long time to get there.

Day two

We just signed the treaty and there was a big crowd watching us. Henry Williams was very fluent in Maori, but somehow the translation was wrong and we knew it . After the Maori signed  a crazy man came in and did a dance with a spear load while saying Maori.

We didn't know what he was saying but it was funny. Also at night  I woke up to get a drink of water and in the meeting room I heard Father say that the translation was wrong and the Maori would find out and  would start a war . I went back to bed very confused but, what if a war will start? I am scared! When will you get here

Yours sincerely Bobson hops.

wonderful blog posts and comments

learning Goals: L2 present work in a range of forms & create ideas that link with the topic and each other and include detail. L3 present work in a range of forms, write content relevant to the task. & use language that is suitable to the topic, audience and purpose.

Kia ora my name is Romeo

This week for our reading and writing we have had to do a google doc or a slideshow on how to do a good blog post or comment.

This is what we learnt:

In a blog post you need to start with a catchy title then an introduction then a learning goal if you have one then you start your writing and try to do more than one paragraph. After you have done writing You can start editing your texts with different fonts and sizes.

In a blog comment you can start with something positive, then something thoughtful, then put something helpfull so in the pesons next blogpots you are commenting on, they could improve. And then at the end ask a question so if they reply you could reply back so you start a conversation.
